Nova Kakhovka

Nova Kakhovka (Ukrainian: Нова́ Кахо́вка, pronounced [noˈwɑ kɐˈxɔu̯kɐ]; Russian: Новая Каховка) is a city in the central Kakhovka Raion region of Kherson Oblast in southern Ukraine, known for its monumental architecture built as part of the Great Construction Projects of Communism.Nova Kakhovka is an important port city on the east bank of the Dnieper River where it meets the downstream end of the Kakhovka Reservoir. It forms one abutment of the Kakhovsky Bridge over the hydroelectric dam; the other is located in Beryslav. The city lies immediately downstream of the source of the North Crimean Canal that irrigates the Crimean peninsula, and can be said to control the seat of the channel.The city's population 45,069 (2021 est.) is currently under occupation by Russian forces, and on 6 August 2022 Vitaliy Hura, the deputy mayor appointed by the occupier, "was shot dead by an unidentified assailant while leaving his home."
